The Jacobite service between Fort William and Mallaig has a well deserved reputation as being one of the most scenic rail journeys in Europe, if not the World. The 84 mile return trip takes in the magnificent splendour of Ben Nevis (the largest mountain in Britain, rising to 1,345 metres above sea level), and skirts by Britain's deepest freshwater loch, Loch Morar, home to Loch monster Morag. The route also affords some fine coastal views of Arisaig and the Silver Sands of Morar, made famous in "Highlander" and "Local Hero". 

The Jacobite runs morning and afternoon services in season. Morning services usually run weekdays between from late April to October, with an afternoon service running between May and September. Weekend morning services run between June and September, with additional afternoon services during July and August. There may also be a winter service operating during December. Please check West Coast Railways website for details of dates, times and prices. 

A fabulous trip for rail enthusiasts, film buffs, Harry Potter fans and anyone who enjoys stunning scenery and sense of romance and history. There are also some great wildlife spotting opportunities at Mallaig. Highly recommended, but must book early.
